Pace Fuelcare helps Springhouse table tennis club to keep on bouncing

March 2014

Table Tennis enthusiasts at the Springhouse Table Tennis Club, in Corringham, Essex, will be able to continue training in warmth and comfort this winter thanks to a generous a donation from local heating oil supplier Pace Fuelcare, based in Thurrock.

Members of the Club, established 50 years ago, which practices on Springhouse Road in Corringham, train every Monday and Wednesdays during the winter months and once weekly during summer.  Teams from the Club compete in the local Basildon & District Table Tennis League.

The Club applied for the ‘Sports Bursary’ donation after Dan Harris, Springhouse Club member, read about the offer from Pace Fuelcare in the local paper.

Peter Handscombe, Honourable Secretary to the Club, commented, “We are really grateful for this donation which comes in plenty of time to get our heating system sorted for the winter season.  We train in a large sports hall in which the heating failed last winter. That, coupled with the very cold temperatures, ensured we got into an energetic game very quickly to avoid getting uncomfortably cold.  These chilly conditions weren’t particularly enticing for visiting teams either!

“With the Pace Fuelcare donation we will be able to address this problem with the purchase of two new powerful heaters.  The funding will also be able to purchase two new competition quality nets for our league games.”

Alex Ward, Pace Fuelcare Regional Manager, commented, “We launched the ‘Sports Bursary’ campaign to help sporting individuals and teams who possibly don’t get funding by standard routes.

“A number of our employees are keen table tennis players so the Springhouse application was a popular choice for a donation.  Now we’ve made a connection with the club, I hope we can have some further involvement, perhaps on a competitive level!  As a local business it’s important that we get involved with the community. Though schemes such as the Sports Bursary we have the opportunity to give something back while also creating a relationship with an organisation we wouldn’t have otherwise.”

Pace Fuelcare launched the Sports Bursary campaign to give something back to the local community and help raise the profile of lesser known sports and support the sports stars of tomorrow.
